Is Teeth Whitening safe?
Teeth Whitening is safe provided that it is applied by a trained professional and that you are a suitable candidate. A low percent of hydrogen peroxide is used to ensure our treatments are perfectly safe for the teeth and gums, and cause very minor to no sensitivity.
However, it is imperative to note that teeth whitening may not be advisable for certain individuals, including pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with pre-existing or underlying dental conditions, or those who are immunocompromised. Additionally, caution is exercised in recommending teeth whitening for individuals under the age of 18, as whitening products may be too abrasive on developing teeth. A prerequisite for your appointment involves the completion of our informed consent form to assess your suitability as a candidate for teeth whitening.
Will teeth whitening work on someone with veneers, caps or other restorative dental work?
Teeth Whitening should lift superficial staining on any restorative work (from consumption of food and beverages etc. overtime). This will result in the tooth or teeth to appear whiter overall, and will restore the appearance to it’s original shade. However, will not whiten any further than the original shade when applied.
How long will my teeth stay white after my treatment?
Our professional whitening treatments are designed to remove staining and discolouration from your teeth, leaving the teeth up to 14 shades whiter. Over time, your teeth will naturally discolour. This is dependent on many factors such as foods and beverages consumed, how well you care for your teeth, genetics, or, if you are a heavy smoker. It's important to recognise that individual responses to teeth whitening treatments vary.
To maintain optimal whiteness, we recommend scheduling a top-up appointment in 4-6 weeks following your initial treatment. While some clients may require more frequent top-up appointments, results should then last from 6 months-12 months.
What is the difference between the Triple White and Ultra White Treatments?
Our ‘Triple White Treatment’ is conducted in one sitting. 90% of clients will achieve their desired results in this single appointment.
Our ‘Ultra White Treatment’ is designed for those with heavily discoloured teeth, or for individuals that wish to achieve the whitest shade for their teeth. This treatment type is essentially two sittings of the Triple White Treatment, spaced one week apart, to ensures the whitest results are achieved.
If you are uncertain which treatment will be most suitable for you, please don’t hesitate to contact Olivia on 0416 200 182 or olivia@beachesteethwhitening.com to discuss treatment options. Treatments can always be individually tailored to attain the results you wish for. Your appointment can also be upgraded after the first sitting, if you would like to upgrade from the Triple White Treatment, to the Ultra White Treatment.
Should I get a dental clean before teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening works best on teeth that are free-from plaque and tartar. A dental check-up prior to teeth whitening will ensure you are made aware of any underlying conditions (such as cavities or gum disease) that may affect how your teeth respond to whitening, and whether you are a suitable candidate. Visiting your dentist prior to teeth whitening can actually lead to greater results as the removal of plaque, tartar, and surface stains ensures more even and effective whitening. Maintaining the health of your teeth will also reduce the risk of sensitivity during the whitening process.
We recommend visiting your dentist for a general clean at least 6 weeks prior to your whitening treatment, and every 6-12 months to follow. This is important for your health, but will also ensure the best possible results are achieved.
Can I drink coffee post-appointment?
Coffee and tea should be avoided completely for a period of 48-72 hours post-whitening, whilst the teeth are extremely porous. Dark coloured foods and beverages should be avoided altogether during this timeframe to encourage your results to stay in place.
How far in advance to my wedding should I book in for teeth whitening?
It is recommended to book in 1 week before your wedding, or at least 4 days prior to the wedding date.
You will need to stick to the white diet for a period of 48-72 hours post-treatment, avoiding all dark coloured foods and beverages. Therefore, it is recommended to schedule your treatment around any social events in the lead up to your special day, to ensure following the white diet is as easy for you as possible.
Are there any side effects?
You may experience very slight teeth sensitivity for up to 3 hours post-appointment. This can be managed by over the counter painkillers or Sensodyne Toothpaste. We also recommend using LOVEBYT Cinnamon & Clove Toothpaste for its calming effects on the teeth and gums.
It is also important to note that the teeth may appear patchy or streaky post-appointment. This is completely normal, and, only temporary. Patchiness will disappear completely within 7 days post-treatment.
